What a great way to get out, exercise and enjoy the quiet and peace, alone or with man’s best friend, along the scenic groomed trails of Busted Arm Draw. The National Forest Service has permitted the Norwood Nordic Association to groom 5 miles of skiing trails in the Uncompahgre National Forest on Wright’s Mesa – just 9 miles south of Norwood, Colorado. The Norwood Nordic Association is an all-volunteer organization, and grooms for both skate skiing and classic trails. Directions to “Broken Arm Draw” Trail: • Rt. 145 to Lone Cone Road (44ZS Road). This is 1½ miles east of Norwood. • South on Lone Cone Road for about 9 miles. • Once past the “Entering National Forest “ sign, take the next right. • Look for the parking area on the right.
WEST END SLEDDERS – SNOWMOBILE CLUB
Join in all the fun with the West End Sledders! Under permit from the National Forest Service, this snowmobile club grooms about 230 total miles of snowmobiling trails – from Lone Cone Mountain to the Uncompahgre Plateau. They sponsor a Poker Run the last Saturday in February, and have a picnic/clean up in the summer.
Lone Cone Trail heads are located as follows: The base of Lone Cone, 13 miles South of Norwood; Thunder Road trailhead is 4 miles Southwest of Norwood on Thunder Road; Fall Creek Trailhead is 6 1/2 miles South of Hwy 145 on Fall Creek near Placerville; Barlow Creek trailhead is on Hwy 145, 7 miles North of Rico.
Nucla/Uncompahgre Trail head is located on 25 Mesa Road 5 miles North of Nucla as well as from the Delta side of the Uncompahgre, 26 miles Southwest of Delta on 25 Mesa Rd. Trail runs Northwest to Uncompahgre Butte and Southeast to Dave Wood Road.
